1975

As most of you know, I host an Internet radio show called “Left Of The Dial” on Grow Radio (every Monday from 3 to 5, in case anyone’s asking). I usually try and concentrate on (good) music released in the last five years, but with a weekly show, you either end up playing the same bands or having to become more “imaginative.”

So this is how my steel-trap mind operated a few weeks ago: “Hey, what if picked a random year and just played music from that year. That way, I would have material for, like, 50 weeks.” And just as randomly, I chose the year 1975 as my inaugural. Why?  I just said it was random, but it also holds a crucial point in music history: firmly in place were the music industry excesses that punk would attempt to blow out of the water the following year.  Not only that, but funk reached its absolute apogee that year. Oh, it also happened to be the year I began obsessively collecting music, thanks to my brand new paper route.

Well, my listeners and I had a blast. You be the judge. Suffice to say 1975 was a far richer year musically than I had envisioned and I am also pleased that I still occasionally listen to some of the stuff I bought way back then. In fact, if I’m not mistaken my copy of “Toys In The Attic” still sits on my record shelf. Lemme check. Nope. My college roommates must have stolen it way back when. Bastids.

Hope you enjoy the new look!

I would’ve swapped out ‘TNT’ for ‘Live Wire’ – the most perfect of menacing rockers ever put on God’s green earth. But that’s just me. Killer show. And hot new site, too.
